I definitely forgot to write a blog for June! Last month flew by. From harvesting seeds to getting a new job, and then getting approved to vend at Seattle International Plant con, I hardly had time to think. All good things!

Last month I harvested two crosses. I selfed my SKG Grey Caycee and had a very low yield. Out of about 75 berries harvested, only about 10 seeds are viable. There were a lot of runts and mushies so I determined this will probably be a better pollen parent than a seed parent in the future.

I also harvested seeds from my Carla who I nicknamed ‘Cartier’, I crossed her with my big prenumber Carla. I planted them in a tree fern and perlite mix topped with stratum and omg. The seeds produced THE FATTEST and most fuzzy roots I have ever seen! Stratum dries at the top a lot faster than moss or TFF so misting more often is needed. But the growth and speed has shown to be quite incredible compared to sewing into TFF like I usually do. Very excited about these!

Lots of inflos are receptive right now. I have my Bessea Aff ‘Cheveron’ who I am hoping the timing aligns with putting my friend’s bess pollen on it. My white stripes forgetii is also receptive, I want to put Carla on her and try to get some really nice dark round babies with super crystally veins! I also selfed my painterly Michelle, I should know if it took in a couple weeks. That should be a fun one as she has really cool thick sparkly veins. My red vein BVEP is looking juicy. I think I will put some dressleri on her to get more dark leaves and some red veining. Then finally my RG Port x Carla has an inflo that I want to put carla on as well. That is such a pretty, daggery plant I would love to self but I will see what putting more carla into the mix will do.

Summer has been quite warm in the PNW this year with a lot of high 80s. I have been running the AC in the plant room to try and keep it below 80, but no one seems to mind it. Including my new Pap x Splendidum I picked up recently!  Known for their difficulty, this cross introduces pap genes to the splendidum and I have found it pretty easy so far. Its even put out a new leaf in my care.
